Automobiles in German City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state early analysis show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.

An important political figure said the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
